This week we interviewed Armineh, an award winning mobile photographer on many contests and featured in many websites. She's also an active member in various communities that I had the luck to meet and have her to join ours too.
For those who already follow her, got the chance to see great photos as well meet one of the kindest persons on the mobile photography world. For those who don't, don't forget to follow her in the end of this interview.
Here's her interview:1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Armineh Hovanesian. Iím of Armenian descent, born in Paris in the early 60s, raised in Tehran and Boston and relocated to Los Angeles area in 2003! I work at an insurance brokerage firm during the day and my passion and hobby is mobile photography.2. What was your journey to mobile photography?
I have no photography training but have always loved taking pictures. Mobile photography grabbed my attention in 2008. At the time I was using an LG Xenon phone with no apps. Enter 2009 and my first iPhone and the rest is history. iPhone and various apps opened numerous doors for my creativity to soar.
The arts have been and are a very dominant force in my life. This force has been the life giving spirit that has kept me sane and balanced for decades and hope it will linger on for the next couple or few decades to come!3. What phone(s) do you use to take your photographs?
At the moment I use an iPhone 5s. My iPhone is an extension of my arm and my eye. I love the ease and accessibility. I like the fact that once you take your photo, you can instantaneously work on your edits. No need to download photos from camera. This simplicity is the main reason why I (and am sure others) are able to take photos anywhere, any time.
The iPhone has made it possible for me to take photos on a daily basis. The entire process has become a ritual! Some shots are worth saving and others are deleted. The creative process is the initial mission and the deletion is the letting go process to make room for better shots.4. What is your favorite kind of photography? What you consider to be your specialties?
My inspiration can range anywhere from a leaf on the ground, to sunrises, to reflections, to portraits, to street photography. That said, throughout the years my specialty has become portraits, whether of others or self-portrait, it is what I do best. I also love collaborating with my fellow mobile photographers.5. Do you use any mobile photography accessories?
I do own an Olloclip, a tripod and a mini studio box. I am yet to use my Olloclip because I have to keep removing my phoneís case in order to use it. Just being lazy, honestly. As for the tripod, I have used it on occasion and the studio box is in its container because at the moment I do not have the room to have it assembled.
These are wonderful accessories to have but thatís all they are for me, accessories.6. Do you take advantage of the many photography apps that are available for smartphones? If so, tell us your favorite ones.
Absolutely. I have downloaded and tried various apps and at this moment the following are my go to apps: Snapseed, Photowizard, iColoramaS, Glaze, Pixlromatic+, ProCamera, Hipstamatic, Oggl, Decim8, and RainyDaze. I wished the people behind LemeCam would upgrade the app so it can have higher resolution (the only negative aspect of it).7. What are your ambitions as a mobile photographer?
My goal is to learn more, improve and get better at what I do every day. I do dream of becoming a professional and be able to work and live doing what I love. I do sell my photos, do participate in exhibitions and at times, I do win in contests and competitions.8. What would be your dream camera phone?
I dream of a camera phone that would take and save photos in high resolutions, just like a DSLR. I dream of apps to have the same specifications. These improvements will definitely be a plus for all mobile photographers.9. Select what you consider to be the best 3 photos that you have shared at The Mobile Photography Blog.
